Antica Taverna a Chiaia

"This restaurant was recommended to us while on a guided tour. The sisters that own and run the restaurant are amazing! The food is incredible. We went on our last day before moving on to Calabria and Sicily. We then absolutely had to return when we came back to Naples to fly home. We had the octopus salad to start both times, it was like butter and melted in our mouths! The dish was so simple yet flavorful and so well prepared and presented. The first time we had dinner there my mom got one of their seafood pasta dishes, she loved it and said it was one of the best pasta dishes she ever had. I had the linguini with prawns and yellow cherry tomatoes, it was fantastic! The second time I had the eggplant parm and mom had the pasta with beef. The eggplant was very tasty! The beef in mom’s dish was so tender and flavorful, the pastas were cooked perfectly as well. I cannot recommend this restaurant more. Not only was the food great but the service was also great! Even after a week they remembered us and came by to chat for a bit and recommend dishes based off what we ordered last time and made sure everything was perfect for us. I do recommend making a reservation as they get very busy quickly. We ate at 7:30 each time and within minutes of sitting down the entire restaurant was packed."

"The food & overall dining atmosphere were great. However, we had a disappointing experience with the payment. The owner charged us €67 by card immediately, but we knew the food was €45, drinks €6 & coperto for 3 at €6, totaling €57. When we asked for a detailed bill to clarify, the owner refused & only gave us the card payment receipt. He then explained the extra €10 was a 10% service charge added on top (but this was never listed on the menu). He applied the service charge without asking for our consent. Even accepting the 10% service charge @€5.1, we were still overcharged. After questioning this, he returned us €5 in cash. We has been in Italy for 2 weeks & this was the 1st time we were asked to pay the compulsory service charge. This unexpected overcharge made us feel the restaurant was not honest in charging customers. I advise checking the bill breakdown carefully before paying to avoid similar arguments."

"Had a great time at Antica Taverna on a Sunday night. It was pretty busy for a Sunday night and all the restaurants in the area were trying to get patrons, but the Antica Taverna owners sat us pretty quickly after giving us some tine to drink as we waited. They were very sweet! We had the mozzarella broccoli rabe fried ball as an appetizer and wow it was so delicious. We also had a nice place of spaghetti with clams. Would eat here again!"

"Exquisite. Seriously the best local authentic restaurant I have found in Naples. This Taverna has been in the family for generations. It is a family business and the owners are the epitome of hospitality. They are everything- food= brilliant, hospitality = superb, atmosphere- vibrant. Price - not ripped off Food - generous and fresh Atmosphere - priceless Do yourself a favour and come here NOW!! PRONTO"

"The staff was really warm and friendly. It almost felt like family. Made me very happy just being in the restaurant. The food was really delicious. We had the scorfano and pessogna pesce. Cooked to perfection and then the staff came over to remove the head, tail and bones. We also had some wine. Afterwards, the staff and some of the customers broke out into song."
